Neros
On August 11, 2026, Neros Technologies announced a $250 million Series C at a $2.5 billion valuation, co-led by Sequoia Capital and the American Strategic Technology Fund (ASTF). The round triples the company's valuation from nine months ago and brings its total funding to $371 million.
It lands at a defining inflection point: the Pentagon's Drone Dominance Program (DDP) is transitioning small, attritable First-Person View (FPV) strike drones from experimental battlefield improvisations into formal, mass-procured consumables.
In a crowded defense landscape where over 100 startups are pitching small UAS, Neros has separated itself from the pack. Founded in mid-2023 by two competitive FPV racers with zero traditional defense backgrounds, the company eschewed the PowerPoint prototype phase entirely, hand-carrying 30 prototypes to Ukrainian frontline units three months after inception.
That operational pedigree has since translated directly to the Pentagon's proving grounds. In Gauntlet Phase I trials, Neros finished second on the scorecard with its Archer platform (87.5 points) and then proved to be the only vendor in the entire 25-company field to fulfill 100% of its delivery commitment (at the time of this writing), shipping and securing acceptance for all 2,400 contracted units to trigger a follow-on 2,000-unit bonus ramp.
Drones have become synonymous with defense tech, so if you are wondering why this particular news makes our Thursday Premium edition, consider the field: in a sector crowded with over 100 drone companies, Neros has risen to the top of the leaderboard across multiple benchmarks despite only being founded in 2023.
This week we set out to dive into these questions: How did a three-year-old startup manage to out-deliver other well-capitalized startups? Why is it commanding a two billion-dollar valuation in the brutal economics of low-cost, attritable hardware, and what exactly do they plan to spend $250M on?
